‘Tiger stripes’ or flamed is one of the beautiful features of Maplewood. Together with its ability of not absorbing and deaden the sound, it makes it a perfect material for the making of a violin. Maplewood is commonly used on the scroll, neck, side and back of violins. Due to the growth its fibers that are distorted in an undulating chatoyant pattern, it produces three dimensional wavy lines known as "flames". Interestingly, the above tinted glass panels from a church has its ‘tiger stripes’ design which reflects the similarity of a gorgeous violin back. |
